Our Philosophy
At DoudouKare, we believe that every birthing person deserves to feel respected, heard, and supported throughout their birth journey. We are here to help you comb through your options, demystify the experiences of labor and birth that are often hidden behind closed doors in our modern culture, and provide you with the tools necessary to make empowered and informed decisions for your highest well-being. We embrace all types of families and birth choices, and we are committed to reproductive justice and your right to choose the environment that feels right for you.

A positive birth experience does not mean everything goes perfectly. It means that you feel surrounded by love and support, and that you have a voice that is heard. Our birth doula services start from a foundation of compassion. By listening to you and responding to your needs, the physical and emotional support we provide comes from a place of intuitive compassion. We are here to ensure that, no matter how your birth unfolds, you feel empowered and cared for.

What is our purpose? As Doulas, not only are we there for our clients physically, emotionally, and educationally; we are there for so much more. Often, pregnancy and birth are described as glamorous and beautiful, but in reality, that is not always the case. Sometimes there are surprises, unplanned complications that arise, or uncertainties that can't be resolved. Because that's what pregnancy and birth are all about! It's messy and unpredictable - but it's also so extremely powerful. We are here as your biggest cheerleaders and advocates, and also as shoulders to cry on when things get tough and uncertain. We are here to remind you that you are strong and brave, when you feel anything but that. We cannot promise you that things are going to be easy, perfect, or go the way you’d planned. But we can promise you that we will take every measure in our power to find you peace in the moment, future, and in your past experiences, whatever they may entail!
-
Do you perform physical examinations? No. Doulas are trained in many areas, but we are not doctors or midwives. We are trained in pain management to help you manage your pain during labor and birth. We are also trained in different position techniques to help you labor quicker and easier. Doulas are NOT medically trained. We provide no examinations of any kind. We do not perform any medical procedures.
-
Will hiring us affect my partner's role during birth? As your doulas, part of our job is to help you and your partner connect with each other during your labor. We encourage your partner to fully engage during the labor process and help facilitate that process. We are a team. We understand how important the role of the partner is and their presence is critical to you feeling safe, secure, and loved.
-
What are your interactions with medical staff like?Professional doulas like ourselves will always respect all medical staff that we encounter. We try to be somewhat of a bridge between you and the medical staff. It’s a delicate balance. Our job is to give you any information that you might need to make a tough decision. We will help you talk through those tough decisions. If you have any questions that we can’t answer, we will make sure that either your OB/Midwife or a nurse can.
-
Do I have to give birth at home? No, we support all parents in all settings. We will join you at the hospital, birth center, or at home.
