Placenta
Encapsulation

Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing the placenta after birth, typically by steaming, dehydrating, and placing it into capsules for postpartum use.

For many families, it is a way to extend connection to the birth experience while exploring additional forms of postpartum support.

Why Families Choose Encapsulation

Choice & Intent

Families who choose placenta encapsulation often do so for a variety of personal reasons, seeking to bridge the gap between birth and the early postpartum transition.

  • Supporting postpartum recovery

  • Exploring potential hormonal balance

  • Honoring the placenta as part of the birth experience

  • Cultural or traditional practices

  • Personal preference and curiosity

Planning
Ahead

If you are considering placenta encapsulation, it’s helpful to plan for:

Bringing a cooler and ice packs to your birth location

Communicating your plan with your provider or birth team

Identifying who will be responsible for storage and handoff

Safety &
Considerations

Placenta encapsulation is a non-clinical service and is not intended to replace medical care or guidance from your healthcare provider.

It may not be recommended in certain situations, including infection, specific medical conditions, or complications.

Always consult with your healthcare provider if you have questions about whether this option is appropriate for you.
